Personal Biography

Justin Hileman

My name is Justin Hileman. I am a Utah Valley based freelance web developer and designer. I like pushing the limits of design and interface, convincing CSS, XHTML and AJAX to do things that don't seem possible. My personal blog, justin hileman dot info, is often the testbed for my ideas and experiments.

I like warm, light rain. I say that I enjoy camping and hiking and the outdoors in general, then I end up spending all of my time in front of a computer... But I like computers too, so I don't mind too much.

Specialties

I have recently become interested in personal identity management. An online presence is as important for individuals today as it was for corporations at the end of the twentieth century. Many of the techniques used in search engine marketing can be leveraged to maintain an online identity.

I utilize Open Source web technology—such as Drupal, Script.aculo.us/Prototype (and other AJAX application frameworks), the Zoop Framework, PHP and MySQL—to provide cost-effective and innovative web solutions.

That last sentence was pretty amazing. I could probably squeeze a few more buzzwords into it if I tried...

Interests

My primary form of transportation is a scooter named Stella, which I took on a 5800 mile scooter road trip during the summer of 2006. I bought it from the coolest scooter shop in the universe (aka the scooter lounge). These guys really know what they're doing... You should check 'em out if you need scooter parts, or scooter service, or scooter advice. Or anything else, really. And be sure to read Dave's blog when you have a minute :-).

I enjoy swing dancing. But it's prob'ly not the kind you're thinking of when I say "swing dancing". You know, the kind where there are guys throwing poor helpless girls around, and people get hurt, and where they still think Brian Setzer is a good swing band. I dance Lindy Hop, and Balboa, and blues. I'm pretty active in the BYU Swing Kids Club in Provo, and I enjoy dancing at the Golden Skillet in Salt Lake City.
